We Build the Bridge to Downtown Fredericksburg

When the Chatham Bridge closure was announced, the merchants and citizens of Fredericksburg, Stafford, and the surrounding areas were greatly concerned about the social and economic impact.

In light of that, the Fredericksburg Economic Development Authority commissioned the “We Build the Bridge” campaign.  The idea was to create a community effort to offset the negative effects of the closure.

But then…Covid-19 hit, and the closure of the bridge almost seemed small in comparison.  Businesses closed, people stopped going out, and the state went into quarantine. It felt like every time things began to open back up, something happened.  We even had a month of snow and ice.

Finally, the sun is coming out, a vaccine is being broadly disseminated, and the Governor has lifted many of his restrictions.  Even the bridge project appears to be on schedule.  Fredericksburg is opening!

In light of that, new efforts are in place with the “We Build the Bridge” campaign.  Look for Capitalize Marketing to be visiting Downtown Fredericksburg merchants with some great swag and marketing materials.

Additionally, look for the giant “We Build the Bridge” button to show up for pictures and highlights of our merchants.  There is even a fun video on the way!

If you would like to track the fun, visit www.instagram.com/webuildthebridge - you might just see yourself.

So, let’s continue to be safe, but let’s also be hopeful about the coming spring.

Remember, its not bridges that bring people downtown.  We Build the Bridge to Downtown Fredericksburg!
