Brady and Mahomes Teach Us Key Business Lessons

The Big Game is this weekend.  Tom Brady is already a legend and the G.O.A.T. as he plays in his 10th Super Bowl at age 43.  Patrick Mahomes is charting a potential G.O.A.T. territory as he plays in his second Super Bowl at the age of 25.

These two are so good at what they do, that even their haters have to respect their accomplishments.  They are both League MVP’s and Super Bowl MVP’s.

But this game is really about how these two capitalize on what they do best.  Truly, there a more mobile quarterbacks than Tom Brady, but his preparation is legendary.  Patrick Mahomes’ mobility does put him at risk of injury quite often, but he always finds the open receiver.

What the two have in common is that they are incredibly smart field generals.  They both know where every player is.  They know every option, and they make good decisions…quite often in a millisecond.

Their smarts are really their best quality, and they capitalize on it each and every Sunday.

The demonstration of their field smarts is evidenced by how each of them have won comeback Super Bowl victories.  Brady came back from a 28-3 deficit against the Falcons in Super Bowl 51.  Mahomes came back from a late 20-10 deficit against the 49ers’ in last year’s Super Bowl.

Most of us aren’t going to be Super Bowl MVP’s.  But being smart field generals is a possibility for us.  We can get better and better at what we do by:

Continually learning through reading.

Listening to podcasts.

Getting a coach.

And on and on.

Your competition may have more experience and might even have better skills.  But you can outlearn them.  Commit to being the best field general out there.  Never grow old of getting better.

So, as we watch the Super Bowl this weekend, let’s enjoy two players who are the smartest at what they do, and let’s get inspired to be the same.
