What “Cruella” Can Teach You About Your Competition
My wife and I took our daughters to see “Cruella” this past weekend. “Cruella” is the live action origin story of Cruella de Vil from the animated classic, “101 Dalmatians”.
In it, Cruella comes into her own personally and professionally while she battles the Baroness. The Baroness sits firmly atop the fashion world in both influence and power, and Cruella intends to upend her.
While fun and fantastical, the movie sparked a realization that younger and more creative competition will never cease. Even if you are the younger and more creative person now, you will eventually age, and there will always be someone more creative. With that reality, what should you do? Here are a few thoughts:
First, never abandon creativity. Even if your business is cut and dry with no room for artistry, pursue creativity in your marketing. Tried and true can become tired and old very quickly.
Second, hustle smartly. People often rationalize their declining work ethic with “work smarter”. Instead, hustle smarter. Know when to take breaks, but make sure what makes your work ethic smart is that it leads to greater productivity and profitability.
Third, out educate everyone. As I tell my Chamber LeadShare, “In a world of free information, ignorance is a choice.” Constantly improve your skills by reading, listening, and studying. Additionally, join a mastermind or get a coach. Out educating your competition will always give you an edge.
So, don’t distress. There will always be competition, and there will always be people who are more creative, but that doesn’t mean that you are going to lose the battle of the marketplace. The key is to pursue creativity, hustle smartly, and out educate everyone else.
As always, please let us know if we can help.
