How to Avoid Bad Clients and Bad Contracts

Early on, our company made a critical mistake.  We took on some bad contracts because we needed to grow.  Neither the client nor the services promised were a good fit for us.

But when a company is young and hungry, mistakes like this are common.

One time, we were slow creating a deliverable…again because it was out of our wheelhouse.  Delay after delay happened.

The contract ultimately ended with the client being happy with what we delivered, but dissatisfied with our speed.

Now, there are times you take on projects you can’t immediately fulfill when you have the time and resources to staff them.  However, there rarely is a good time to take on a project or client who isn’t a good fit.

What could have we done differently?  The answer is to quote William Shakespeare: “To Thine Own Self Be True.”

Had we known ourselves, our abilities, and even our values better, we wouldn’t have taken the contract.  We wouldn’t have put our reputation at risk.

Knowing yourself is essential to marketing, execution, and customer service.

Since that experience years ago, we hired a coach to help us learn about ourselves.  Now, we go forward with a full knowledge of who we are and what we can AND can’t do.

That coaching was so valuable, we pursued certification so we could help our clients experience the same value that we did.  If you would like to learn more about our coaching services, you can find that information at https://www.johncmaxwellgroup.com/gordonduncan.

Have fun growing in knowledge of yourself and your services.  In doing so, you will be Capitalize on What’s Best in your company and win scores of satisfied clients.

If we can be of help, please let us know.
